Iced Green Tea Recipe
Green tea can turn bitter fast when iced the wrong way. Cold brewing avoids that entirely, producing a naturally smooth, light iced tea with no bitterness to manage.
Ingredients (makes 1 litre)
- 4 teaspoons green tea leaves
- 1 litre cold, filtered water
- Lemon slices or mint, optional
- Honey to taste, optional
Method
- Add the green tea leaves to a jug or bottle of cold water.
- Cover and refrigerate for 6-8 hours, or overnight.
- Strain out the leaves.
- Serve over ice, with lemon or mint if desired, and sweeten only if you want it.
Tips
Cold brewing extracts flavour without the harsh compounds that hot water pulls out quickly, which is why it naturally avoids bitterness. It also means you don't need to sweeten it at all if you prefer tea unsweetened.
